Terra Nova is a research and breeding company of specific plant families who only sell wholesale.  Their materials are available to many other and much larger wholesale companies. We are fortunate to be able to buy direct from them. They have an excellent track record of excellent plant materials.

 

Q&Z Nurseries is also a research and breeder of Hosta and also a promoter of hybridizered plant materials in this same plant family. The owner, Mark Zilis, has written highly coveted books on their signature plants. They, too, have an excellent track record of clean plant material. His book, the Hostapedia, is a great resource for the Hosta collectors.

 

A third source is a wholesaler of many different bare-root and bulb plants who have been in business longer than we have been alive. There's something to be said for longevity. Their materials have always been clean, undamaged, and healthy.

 

Our fourth source is a large garden center with well-maintained and disease/insect-free perennial plant stock. We've associated with them for nearly a dozen years and are confident of the materials we purchase from them.

 

And lastly, our own garden has yielded several specimens worthy of sharing. The advantage of the this being that we know the growing conditions of these plants and whether there has been any problems with the plants. We only share plant materials from plants that have never had problems with insects or disease. Most of our personal plants have been growing for 10 years so we are secure in knowing that they are hardy and free from any problems.

 

We continually seek other wholesalers with impeccable reputations and plant materials that they are willing to sell in smaller quantities and smaller minimum amounts in order to increase the number of plant types we can make available to our customers.

 

We occassionally do accept certain plant materials from fellow gardeners and also make some purchases from plant sales by garden clubs.  We plant and trial them in a separate area to be sure of their hardiness, health, and vigor.

 

It is with great pride that are able to offer only the best plant materials for sale at competitive prices to our customers. We intend to continue this careful selection of plant sources in order to build a reputation of excellence. We continue to strive in monitoring these plant materials in the best growing conditions available to be sure they will thrive in our customers' gardens. It is in this selective planning that we build our fledgling business with the same care that we give our plants.
